Community Center Director
Madison, SD

This position is responsible for directing the Community Center operations, programs and activities as well as developing and implementing marketing strategies for the organization.  This person would work closely with City of Madison, Dakota State University and the Community Center Governing Board.  This position would provide tours, education of memberships, oversee daily activities, prepare, and present monthly and annual financial reports as well as capital improvement plans to city management, DSU, boards, committees and elected officials.  The Director would assist in reviewing, updating and overseeing the development and implementation of Community Center policies and procedures for all Community Center personnel. 

Position requires skill in oral and written communication, problem solving and planning.  Knowledge of budget management principles and supervisory principles and practices is required.  This position requires knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a baccalaureate degree in a course of study related to the occupational field.  Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the diverse objectives and functions of the subunits in the department to direct and coordinate work, usually interpreted to require three to five years of related experience.  Must possess or ability to obtain a valid driver’s license by the State of South Dakota for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.  Annual salary range starts at $64,114.61 and is based on experience.  The City of Madison offers an excellent benefit package to include health insurance, dental insurance, retirement, vacation and sick leave, holidays and much more.

Fitness and Aquatics Coordinator

This position is responsible for the direction and coordination of fitness and aquatics programs and operations.

Duties include:
• Maintains a physical presence and reliable attendance with the ability to respond at all hours when necessary.
• Plans, organizes, and teaches fitness classes.
• Manages fitness instructors and related contracts.
• Teaches lifeguard and water safety instructor classes.
• Updates and maintains fitness equipment.
• Completes annual, monthly, weekly, and daily planning and implementation of aquatic activities.
• Maintains positive and effective public relations with fitness instructors, lifeguards, members, service contractors, and the public.
• Assists with developing standards and lesson plans.
• Enters data, creates calendars, and builds class records in recreation program software.
• Explains and enforces fitness rules and regulations governing fitness and aquatics activities and operations.
• Hires, trains, assigns, directs, schedules, supervises, and evaluates assigned staff.
• Performs fitness assessments and personal training for members.
• Performs related duties.

Aquatics Coordinator
Madison, SD

This position is responsible for coordinating, planning, organizing, and directing the day-to-day operations of the aquatics department for the Community Center.  This position develops and implements aquatic programming, including recreational, educational, and fitness programs for all ages.  Leads and instructs staff in aquatics and lifesaving courses, including lifeguard courses, water safety instructor courses, CPR and AED courses, and first aid courses.  Maintains accurate records of pool chemicals, certifications and facility maintenance.  This position would perform routine maintenance as needed and coordinate maintenance needs with contractors and Community Center Director.  Preparing monthly reports to the Governing Board and/or other boards or the commission as needed. 

Knowledge of aquatics facility and pool maintenance principles, water safety, first aid and lifeguarding principles and practices, budget management as well as skill in oral and written communication and prioritizing and planning.  Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with one to two years’ experience in aquatic programs and pool maintenance.  Other certifications needed would be Certified Pool Operator or Aquatic Facility Operator, Water Safety Instructor and Certified Lifeguard Instructor or Water Safety Instructor Trainer. Must possess or ability to obtain a valid driver’s license by the State of South Dakota for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.  Hourly rate starts at $16.22 and is based on experience.  The City of Madison offers an excellent benefit package to include health insurance, dental insurance, retirement, vacation and sick leave, holidays and much more.

Parks Supervisor
Vermillion, SD

Snowmobile Park Manager
Lead, SD – Game Fish and Parks
Closing date: December 7, 2021

This position will assist the District Park Supervisor based out of Lead in managing year-round snowmobile program operations. The position will assist supervising 18 seasonal groomer operators and two maintenance staff during the peak snowmobile season; operate and maintain various pieces of snowmobile trail grooming equipment; help manage all facets of program operations including grooming, signing, equipment and facility maintenance; schedule staff; and be the lead facilitator in maintaining program operations during the summer months. The Black Hills snowmobile trails system is 350 miles long and nationally recognized as a premier snowmobiling destination in the country. Seven groomers, nine drags, and eight snowmobiles are utilized throughout the black hills program. Candidate will be required to operate trail grooming equipment, snowmobiles, chainsaws, snowplows, and other industrial equipment. Candidate will also be required to work on weekends, at night, in deep snowpack, cold and wet conditions, be on call during grooming operations, and teach effective trail grooming principles.

Park Manager
Platte, SD – Snake Creek Recreation Area, Game Fish and Parks
Closing Date: December 24, 2021

Snake Creek Park District includes Snake Creek Recreation Area, Platte Creek Recreation Area, Buryanek Recreation Area, Burke Lake Recreation Area, and multiple PWA and LUA areas. The park district has just over 200 campsites and cabins and features multiple boat ramps, heavy day use areas and water based recreation. The Park Manger provides administrative assistance to the District Park Supervisor by functioning as a team leader over seasonal and volunteer staff; coordinating campground reservations; collecting and auditing the parks revenue and expenses; compiling statistics for monthly reports; acts as a contact point for park users; and assists in carrying out the business of the park. This position performs maintenance and janitorial of the park facilities and assists in the daily maintenance of the park grounds, and also leads and assists in park programing and events and helps coordinate special event requests.
