February 27, 2007

Meeting was called to order by Becky Graff.

Approval of Agenda by Kristi Lintz second by Craig Nicholes

Approval of last meetings minutes by John Small second by Paul Fokken

Sec/Treasure Report:

Broke out last year’s budget.  We did not make money but we did ok.  The break down of the conference is the best that I can do.  I tried to split out the membership money from the rest of the money that we took in.  Balance in the check book is $7,017.09 and the balance of the CD at Great Western Bank is $12,385.29

Also the budget sheet was handed out for people to look at for the next meeting where we will set the budget for 2008.

Membership:

Our membership is still growing.  It was a good idea to send out letters to people who did not renew by coming to the conference.  Eric has picked up a lot of those people.  Total membership is as follows: 243 which is the largest we have ever had.

Communications:

Keith changed the look of the website.

Position descriptions are still needed from a few people.  Please get those in as soon as possible.

Keith also changed the awards forms to show Erin name on them.

Job listings are still coming in and being posted on the site at a cost of $25 each.

Activities:

The group met in February in Rapid City with 16 people attending.

State Hershey Track Meet will be June 30th in Watertown

May 19th is the Aquatic Workshop

Talked about SDPRA being a part of the Outdoor Expo in Huron

Talked about doing more community activities

Held a program guide workshop at the meeting

If anyone needs the Healthy SD Logos to put into their summer guides they need to contact the Dept of Health for these and to sign the paperwork to use them

A reminder the Great Day of Play is Aug 15th statewide – Frisbees can be use for this day as an idea

State Games are wanted by some people in the Rapid City area. The only place large enough to hold these would be Rapid City or Sioux Falls.  Kristi talked with ND and looked at Montana on how they do their games.  It would take a lot of work and commitment from a lot of people.  This would be a project for either 2008 or 2009 during the summer about June.

Awards:

Erin Goeden will be taking over the awards for SDPRA.

Midwest Awards are due.  We will be sending in Kelby’s application but others can be sent in as well if anyone would like to nominate others.  They do not have to have won the state award to be submitted.

Scholarships:

Committee has been formed and will be meeting when the applications have been sent in to discuss winners.

Advertise these awards with a June 1st deadline, this would work better as the fall has a really tight time frame for everyone

Paul will send to every college to let them know about the scholarships that the students can apply for

Other Projects: Paul Fokken has been working with a group that is trying to get more recreation started on the reservations in South Dakota through the college.  They have been doing an equipment drive for Rosebud. Is this something that SDPRA would like to get involved with more? If you have any ideas on this you can send them to Paul Fokken.

Constitution:

Custer legislation has the park now getting electric sites.  The cabins were shot down as this time due to some legislators thinking that they did not want the state in competition with private business.

Municipal:

If you have activities you want promote with this group please make sure to get them in so they can be printed in their newsletter.

Maintenance School:

                Rapid City Dates:                March 8th

                Sioux Falls Dates:                March 6th

                Cost is $40 without membership

Cemetery:

Two new members have been added

                Next meeting is April 27th

Aquatics:

May 19th workshop.  We may raise the price for the workshop this year as it has not been raised in many years. AFO class info is needed. Rapid will have one and Sioux Falls would like to do one. Travis would like a listing of all trainings across the state if you area having any to be listed on the website.

Community Branch:

They will be meeting to put some ideas together for the state conference and did meet to give ideas to Sioux Falls for the Midwest Conference

Old Business:

2007 Joint State Conference:

Going well but they feel behind. Jep Enk is the main speaker. They will be doing onsite tours with each having a speaker.  They are in need of the items that the state parks want to be part of the conference. They also need exhibitors so if you have ideas please let them know. Fee for the exhibitors is not set yet but will be soon. Would we like to do a student roundtable? Do we want a directors Roundtable?  They will check to see if they would like one or if it is not needed.

Midwest Conference:

Money is short right now.  They have $4,504.80 in the bank. They are in need of vendors to meet their budget.  If you have names for them to contact please let Kelby know right away.

2007 Goal Review was tabled until the next meeting in June

New Business:

Quick Hits: Need items by March 9th to Becky Graff

Playground Training:  Kelby is not getting any information from the NRPA that he has asked for numerous times.  He will keep us posted.

TR and Student opening on the Board: we have currently have two openings.  If anyone knows of someone for these positions please let us know. TR maybe will be yearly with the host city for the conference finding a person to help out with ideas for the conference sessions. They may do their own this year since most of the members are in the Yankton area.

National Congress: Sept 25-29 in Indianapolis. Pat, Paul and Becky will be attending.

                2008 Conference: Brooking Sept 22-24

We have a singed contact with the hotel. They will not need a deposit until 2008. We could have up to 40 booths total. Would like to invite the Governor to speak at the conference.

Next meeting will be in June 13th in Pierre.  Will find a location at a later date.
