The following is taken from and email from NRPA reference the need for recreation equipment and supplies for Hurricane Katrina evacuees.

I just spoke with Bert Neal, NRPA BOT member for Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
They are addressing the needs of more than 200,000 evacuees in Baton Rouge
(their population doubled over the course of four days).

While he said they've got the basics covered for now in terms of feet on the
street volunteers, he said they would greatly appreciate any donations that
may assist their efforts in providing recreation relief to evacuees located
at local shelters.

Donations of new recreation equipment and supplies would be very much
appreciated. Examples of possible contributions include:

* tee shirts (maybe leftovers from recent promo campaigns, programs,
etc.)

* basketballs, footballs, soccer balls, playground balls, baseballs

* gloves, bats, helmets

* volleyballs, nets

* lawn games

* badminton equipment

* tennis balls, racquets

* jump ropes

* arts and craft materials

* board games, cards

* and any other recreation equipment

Please send donations to:

It would also be helpful if the box(es) were marked with the contents. Bert
also indicated that donations received could also be shipped and transported
to other communities in south Louisiana.

Also, if you in touch with any displaced recreation workers in New Orleans
or elsewhere in storm affected areas...Baton Rouge is looking to hire
displaced recreation staff to help deliver services to evacuees.
